Garden flowers background for dog portrait

Here are two progression shots of the background work for this dog portrait. Having the dog sitting in front of this particular garden is very important to the client since both have great sentimental value. Huge Annabelle hydrangea bushes and giant Hosta lilies make up the vegetation in this particular garden plot and will contrast well against the black coat of this cherished companion.

The composition below is actually the combination of two different photographs combined together.

  1. I'm always amazed how well you paint on the suede paper... When I work with it, which is not often, I panic when I make a mistake since its so difficult to fix it! This painting of the dog is absolutely beautiful.. I can't wait until you start on the dog ..
it's going to pop right out!
Also, I was looking back and don't know how I missed your landscapes from your trip which sounded wonderful and love your cats..!!!!
