Busy summer and now cow moose

Now that summer finally arrived in our neck of the woods, we've been camping and fishing to our heart's content. I took several opportunities to photograph many subjects; some of which I anticipate drawing or painting in the future.

After putting this painting on the back burner for a few months, I've taken up the courage to work on it again. I was not pleased with the background and shrubbery and so re-worked on those areas. Here's what I've done so far:
I still have a bit of work left to do on one of the cows...I've vowed not to start another painting until I finish this one so I better get cracking!!

  1. Good to have you back Colette! The painting is going to be great - the lighting works really well.

  2. Thanks Peter. I just gave up on this painting and put it away for now. I have just started another which I hope I can work it to the end.

  3. This is beautiful and the background looks finished to me. You must live in an amazing place to be able to photogragh so many wonderful creatures to use as reference material. I am guessing you have a powerful zoom lens to be photographing animals such as big black bears!!!

  4. Oh, Sally, thank you. It is a-l-m-o-s-t finished. A bit more work on the forward cow's face/ears/neck and rework a bit the shrubbery/trees in front of the same cow moose.
