Pastel Peacock Painting Finished??

In fear of overworking this piece, I decided I best put it aside and leave it for now. I'm tempting to call it done and it may well be so but the urge to rework those blue feathers is making me nuts! I guess the iridescent sheen is getting to me.

Oh well, I'm already thinking of making another peacock painting to match this one since I have 2 small identical frames I can use. Might not be a bad idea to have a pair of them available for sale at my fall show.

Size: 4.5" x 6.5"

Medium: pastel

Support: suede board

Title: "Slim Pickings"

  1. Lovely piece Colette! Is it very difficult to work on suede board? It's been a good ummmmm...well let's just say many years since I've worked with pastels. My teacher had me overwork them and I disliked the messy hands, hence years later my kids call it OCD! LOL!

I'm excited to see more of your future work!

  2. Beautiful Colette, they are such pretty birds but quite vocal :)

  3. I know what you mean about capturing the irresdescence. I did a peacock in oils, nearly drove me mad! I think its looking great. If you do decide to do more, I found working in highlights of complimentary colours helped.

  4. Dianna, thanks for dropping in and for your kind comment. Working on suede is different than on other supports but once you get the hang of it, most people love it.

Thank you Elizabeth, I agree they are quite vocal and that scream scares me every time!

Sarah, thanks for your suggestion. I think I best leave it for now and see later if I need to retouch, if at all.
