Pastel skies and misty water landscape painting

Fresh off the easel!! The following pastel painting is one of two that I will have featured (among other artists' work) from Nov. 21st to Dec. 23rd at the Nouveau Louvre Exhibition (GNO,174 Elgin St. Sudbury).  This is the gallery's most important fundraiser where all works of art are priced at 200$, with 75$ going to the gallery and 125$ to the artist.

Don't miss out on owning an original and affordable piece of genuine ART! Just in time for holiday gift giving (or to buy for yourself!).

Floating Leaf painting

Just thought I'd share a little painting that is out of my norm!

I few months ago, I was experimenting with some new pastels and polychromos oil based pencils. I used one of my photographic reference of a floating leaf with  lots of colorful patterned reflections in the water. I was determined to finish this painting in a few hours! Although I did not achieve the results I was envisioning, I am content that I did try a different approach to painting which was to not spend hours and hours working it to perfection.

Pastel painting in plein air...

Last weekend while at camp, I pushed myself to sit out in the wilderness and paint my first plein air using pastels and sandpaper. It was not easy sitting in the hot, scorching sun while the deer flies and horse flies chomped on my bare legs. The most difficult aspect of plein air painting for me was having to work with a 360 degree view of the world while I tried to reproduce only a fixed dimensional part of it on paper.  Hopefully, I will find it becomes easier with more practice...

On my next post, I will reveal the portrait of the Weimaraner...I am waiting client approval on the finished piece.

Trumpeter Swan Portrait update

I worked on the foreground and completed the bank at the bottom of the painting. I've enhanced the overall portrait by going over with more pastel and completed the remaining areas in the middle of the painting. The next step, I will complete the water above the swans.

Painted ripples-swan painting update

It sure is taking a long time to add all those ripples and waves to this painting! It should all be worth it in the end, I would hope. Next, I will try to finish the last of the 2 cygnets and the water in the middle of the painting.
