Snow Leopard Print/Artist's Proof with Remarque

I'm excited to announce that I've decided to make available to the public these very limited Artist's Proof (AP)  giclĂ©e prints of my drawing "Peaceful Repose" (Asian snow leopard). The print run is limited to only 5 copies; each with a one-of-a-kind hand-drawn remarque drawing!

You can see below a larger view of  the remarque which is hand-drawn on the print.  The drawing is created with graphite, charcoal and enhanced with colored pencil.  Each additional AP has a different hand-drawn image of a snow leopard which makes every print very unique. Note that AP 1/5 is sold but the remaining prints are available for purchase for 125$ each.

Gorilla Drawing update pencil on drafting film

Had a chance to work on this old fella tonight. The fur on the face is sure taking long to do. He sorta looks funny with his mid forehead stripe...the fur lays in all directions in that area and it is very short and so I felt I wanted to tackle this near the end of the drawing.

US Pentagon police k-9 dog logo/design/artwork drawing

Custom artwork commission completed!

After many weeks, this commission is now pending client approval! I'm so very happy with the design and how it turned out. Final size of this colored pencil drawing is about 13" x 17" with some room for cropping should the artwork be adorned with a smaller mat opening.

My sincere thank you to all who have followed the many updates to this post and for those who took the time to comment and share your thoughts on my blog!

Pentagon Police drawing the badge...

I was able to draw most of the badge today with only a small circular area to complete. I kept the best (worst) for last....the details in that small has very small lettering which will be difficult to reproduce. I will need a steady hand for sure...

Pentagon artwork update

I am satisfied with the look of the US Pentagon building now that the coloring stage is completed. In the next sitting, I will start the preliminary sketch of the US Pentagon Police Department (USPPD) badge.

Star spangled banner...shinny US flag

What a change in color and texture on this drawing as I start to work on the flag. I'm almost done the stars/blue area of the US flag and it seems I can't wait to add the red stripes! The additional color should give this portrait some "zing" and the dogs' coloration might appear less "dull".

Police dog artwork update

I just purchased a large format flatbet scanner and I dont' regret one penny I spent! Although I've reduced the resolution on the images above, one can still see much clearer detail than on my previous posts of the Pentagon Artwork. K-9 Kira is coming along just fine...minus a few gray hairs (at the request of the client).

Malinois K-9 Dog Drawing update

After two more sittings, I've managed to do most of the detail on Robbi's head and neck using colored pencils and blending/burnishing technique. The scan above seems to be reflecting some of the colored pencil and so ends up blurring out some finer detail.
I ordered a new large format scanner and hope to receive it this week to try it as it seems my older scanner is starting to act up (most likely the optical light mechanism is going).

Change of focus...

I'm taking a break from working in pastels on the spoonbill birds painting to work on my next commission. This is the preliminary sketch of the military police artwork of the US Pentagon K-9 bomb detection dogs. I should begin working very soon on the first dog pictured above using colored pencils.

Cat drawing-colored pencil on drafting film

Well this is my first attempt at using Mylar as a surface and I'm pleased with the results. However, not many layers of colored pencil can be added to this "paper" but the richness of the colors is achieved much more quickly.

Law enforcement artwork commission

Here's a rough mock-up preview of my next commission drawing for the US Pentagon, Police K-9 Explosives Detection Unit to be done in colored pencil. The three dogs featured on this drawing include a Malinois, a German Shepherd/Malinois cross and a black Labrador retriever.

Watch for updates as I start to work in this custom artwork design that will be used as a logo for t-shirts and prints.

Cat Portrait work in progress

I'm definetely having fun with my colored pencils on drafting film. It is almost unbelievable how smoothly the colors glide on the paper. Now, if I can only refine my technique a little...

Drafting film divine!

Many months ago, my brother who works for an engineering firm had given me a sample of drafting film and after seeing such beautiful results from fellow artists, I decided to finally try it. Oh, my goodness I can't believe how smooth and silky the pencils glide on this paper! I'm still experimenting and just now realized that I might have worked on the wrong side of the film but the results are still worth the try! I absolutely love it and will definitely be purchasing more of this paper. Oh, how I love my colored pencils now!!

New Dog Portrait on the easel

A commission I am currently working on (graphite enhanced with colored pencil). Unfortunately, the original mock image is very bad but I am able to use other clearer reference stock photos of this breed to help me add the detail to Colonel's portrait. Colonel is a flat-coated retriever who recently passed and is missed terribly by his human family.

Labradoodle dog portrait commission

I loved creating this graphite/charcoal pet portrait of Coco, the black Labrador-standard poodle cross. I almost entirely used 8B graphite (almost charcoal in consistency and darkness) for this artwork.
The messy semi-curly fur and the highlights of the black fur were the most interesting and fun parts to do...until I decided it was best to color her tongue pink and add some subtle brown highlights to her muzzle and color her eyes brown. I just could not get myself to draw the tongue and eyes in shades of grey and so I convinced the client she would look more lively with the added coloring.
So now, I guess this drawing would be best described as a "colored pencil enhanced graphite dog portrait". Size 10"x10".

Large horse colored pencil commission finished!

I've completed my latest horse portrait of a group of six percherons today. This has been a year long project, and I thank my client for being so patient and understanding. I have delivered the portrait to the photographer's today so that a digital copy can be created in the event something were to happen to the original. The portrait's large size (23" x 40") makes it unsuitalbe for scanning so a high quality photograph is the next best thing for reproductions.

I will post the finished artwork as soon as I have the clear image.

Another Completed Pet Portrait Commission

I am doing good for time this year. The portrait of Sam is now finished and just shipped out today. This is what the final portrait looks like.

Sam update-Wheaten Terrier

Here is an update of Sam's portrait. I'm just starting to work on he messy looking fur. The soft-coated Wheaten terrier's coat has shades of caramel, especially on the back, legs and ears, vanilla and dark browns to black around the muzzle and eyes. Sam was described as a goofy character, as shown here with his tongue hanging out sideways.
