Gorilla Drawing update pencil on drafting film

Had a chance to work on this old fella tonight. The fur on the face is sure taking long to do. He sorta looks funny with his mid forehead stripe...the fur lays in all directions in that area and it is very short and so I felt I wanted to tackle this near the end of the drawing.

Drawing of Mountain Gorilla on drafting film

During this sitting I have been mainly concentrating on the wrinkled skin below the gorilla's eyes. The background appears a dull gray due to the backing paper. This is due to the support (drafting film) being translucent.

Mountain Gorilla drawing on the easel

Last spring, I took several photo of a huge silver back male at Disney's Animal Kingdom. I just loved the expression in his eyes on this pose and so cropped out much of the background and body and decided to make this my next project. I am working in colored pencils on drafting film.

Cat drawing-colored pencil on drafting film

Drafting film divine!

Many months ago, my brother who works for an engineering firm had given me a sample of drafting film and after seeing such beautiful results from fellow artists, I decided to finally try it. Oh, my goodness I can't believe how smooth and silky the pencils glide on this paper! I'm still experimenting and just now realized that I might have worked on the wrong side of the film but the results are still worth the try! I absolutely love it and will definitely be purchasing more of this paper. Oh, how I love my colored pencils now!!
