Moose painting in pastels on velour

My next "personal" project, a large wildlife portrait of 2 moose in autumn at dawn. This pastel painting will measure about 18" x 25".

Here is the mock photograph I will be using as reference.

  1. Oh, I can't wait to see this! I love the composition, the lighting, the colors, and the fact that you don't see many paintings of cow moose. This is going to be beautiful!

  2. Wow, can't wait to see this one, where did you get that image from? Did you take it yourself? If so I hope you have zoom lens on your camera!

  3. The original photograghs were taken by me. It was my lucky day!! In fact, I used 3 or 4 different photographs to come up with this composition so it is a combination of poses put together. I have a good zoom lense on my new SLR camera and I love it. The moose let me walk right up close while feeding on the side of the highway. It was a gloomy, drizzly day so I played with the contrast/brightness and colors on Photoshop. Then I croped and moved the moose around to come up with this mock pose, using a different background shot I had taken last fall. I would have to be extremely lucky to get an orginal phose of this composition with one photo.
