Pastel Workshop at the RBWBPAC!

This past Saturday, I was invited to present a second pastel workshop in Azilda, for members of the local art club but this time instead of using sandpaper, we used suede and velour as supports.

Our choice of subject matter included various floral scenes as well as a rabbit to practice drawing fur. The participants were delighted at the wide array of color choice for both the suede and velour  papers and it was fun experimenting with them.

Horse Portrait Commission in progress

Being Halloween, I guess I could be painting the headless horseman and his horse but I must get caught up on my commissions so....

I am working on a larger horse portrait and finding it a bit challenging to work with not-so-good shots, but unfortunately, that's all I have.

I decided to use medium gray velour board for this piece because one can effortlessly achieve a soft look with pastels.

Squirrel and Maple painting update

Humm, the background is seemingly taking forever to paint...it doesn't help that I've been busy again the past few days. Oh well, a little bit here, a little bit there and eventually it will be done. I just hope I don't give up and abandon this one too.

Moose painting in pastels on velour

My next "personal" project, a large wildlife portrait of 2 moose in autumn at dawn. This pastel painting will measure about 18" x 25".

Here is the mock photograph I will be using as reference.

Pastel horse on Suede Paper

My new found love of pastel pencils on suede paper. I also tried velour paper and it is quite comparable and the effect much the same.
This is a work in progress I started a while ago. This painting is of a grey Arabian horse that I photographed one summer during a local horse jumping show.
